Inspirations & Storage Essentials

Hang all your clothes on the same type of hangers. That will instantly make the closet feel more organised. The hooks should match your overall concept in colour and style.

The method of getting new, narrow hangers to fit more things in your closet is well known. The problem with this is that your clothes hang very tightly and get crushed. I, therefore, advise you to do the opposite: get beautiful, wide hangers. Not only do they look better than the thin plastic ones, but they also let your clothes breathe. Another advantage is that you see much better what is hanging in your closet and you can take it out more easily.

Here are some pretty hangers that you can directly order from Amazon.

Place your most-worn shoes in a way that you always have them handy and can easily put them back. Lining your most worn shoes up in a formation will additionally make a big difference! Shoes that you don’t wear very often can be stored in baskets, storage boxes or bags. So, they don’t stand around, and your wardrobe will look neat and tidy. Moreover, beautiful shoes can also look very decorative.

Here is my selection of storage boxes and baskets to put your shoes in.

For a clearly arranged wardrobe, it is essential not to hang all your clothes close together. The rule is: Less is More. But to keep everything neat and tidy, you can hang your clothes on functional hangers or fold the rest of them and store them in drawers, boxes or hanging compartments. If you prefer folding or rolling your clothes and using your existing drawers, you can separate them clearly with drawer dividers.

To fold your clothes properly, you can use the method of Marie Kondo. If you don’t know what the KonMari method is, watch the following video, which shows you how to organise your drawers. Don’t worry, it’s not magic, but it will definitely motivate you to rearrange your things! It’s going very fast, and your clothes won’t be lying on big stacks anymore but rolled and lined up next to each other. This way, you can see every piece at a glance and can easily remove it without messing up a whole stack.

Your jewellery, belts, bags and scarves are always lying around in a corner of your wardrobe? And also storage boxes are not the ideal solution for these items, because they don’t really keep them in place either. The best thing to do is to get inlays for your drawers and specific scarf or belt hangers. That way, you get structure in your accessories and always see everything at a glance.

Anything that does not have a fixed place in your wardrobe seems disorganised and tempts you to put your laundry randomly in different compartments. Therefore: Each compartment has its fixed content. For small items such as underwear and socks, it is best to get storage boxes in a suitable shape or drawer dividers that fit your drawers.

For a clear organisation of your wardrobe, it is important that the individual areas are optimally divided and that the number of your clothes is minimised. That works best if you take your non-seasonally garments out of the closet and store them in special clothing boxes, e.g. under your bed. Sounds like a lot of work? You’ll see, with the time it goes faster and faster. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to sort things out every time, and at some point, you will only have to rearrange your well-ordered stacks.

Clothes, accessories, bags and shoes that stay in the closet can be placed into smaller boxes.

Here are my favourites when it comes to storage boxes.

To add the finishing touches to your closet and make it individual, you should purchase additional decorative items. For an ultimate boutique feeling, you should get a mirror, a small carpet and a stylish chair.
